It is the world’s first research centre dedicated to the advanced technologies that will underpin the 5G network of the future. The centre is working in partnership with some of the world’s leading mobile network operators, infrastructure and tools providers, media and communications organisations, such as Aeroflex, AIRCOM International, BBC, BT, EE, Fujitsu Laboratories of Europe, Huawei, Rohde & Schwarz, Samsung, Telefonica and Vodafone, as well as the UK’s communications regulator, Ofcom, and is carrying out world-leading research into higher-capacity lower-energy mobile-communication networks. The 5G testbed and proof-of-concept projects contribute significantly in achieving 5GIC targets by proving and optimizing novel ideas created by the research team. The 5G testbed includes several advanced hardware emulator platforms, as well as real networks. The centre will move into a purpose-built new building in 2015, which will house 200 engineers and researchers from the University and its industrial partners and provide a base for its many PhD students.
You will be responsible for RF circuit design and analysis for 5G testbeds, RF impairment analysis in 5G systems, system simulations, and will contribute in 5G propagation channel analysis and modelling. This will include the analysis of potential methods and development of key technology in order for the 5G testbed and proof-of-concept project leader to deliver the proof-of-concept full solution.
