RAN optimization engineer needed in etisalat.. Ericsson experience is a must. Please send your cv on khaled.mohamed@etisalat.com

With great power, comes great responsibility. And with great number of users, comes great pressure on infrastructure.
After the mega launch of the much-awaited Jio early this year, everything is not going great for the telecom giant. Infrastructure support to cater to the millions of new users for any network provider is a big task on hand. And Jio launched with an impressive high-data speeds which makes it even challenging to keep the same offering for the millions of new users. With a massive increase in the user base, there was a drop in the speed after the launch. And over time it kept going southwards.

According to the most recent data shared on TRAI MySpeed portal, Reliance Jio 4G is the slowest 4G in India. MySpeed portal gives access to the mobile data experience of consumers across India in an interactive way. Users can submit data by downloading the app and testing their data speeds. The app is available on Android and iOS app stores.

The graph for the download speed shows average 4G download speed as following:
Network OperatorAverage 4G download speed(in Mbps)

While Airtel 4G users experience an average download speed of 11.4Mbps, Jio 4G users manage to get only 6.2 Mbps download speed.

NEW DELHI: Bharti Airtel, the country’s leading telecom operator, has awarded a big-ticket 4G deployment and expansion contract worth around $500 million to Finnish telecom gear vendor Nokia. By giving this contract, Bharti Airtel is expediting its network expansion and ramping up capacities to counter the looming threat from Reliance Jio, which is currently offering free services in the country, industry watchers say.
Nokia and Bharti Airtel didn't share the value of the contract. However, a person familiar with the development said that the contract value hovers around $500 million.

The new agreement with Nokia will see Airtel expand the deployment of 4G technology in three new circles -- Gujarat, Bihar, and UP East -- telecom circle, in addition to six circles -- Mumbai, MP, West Bengal, Odisha, Punjab and Kerala circles -- it already serves.

Nokia will deploy its 4G FDD-LTE and TD-LTE technology across nine of the telco’s circles in India including the regions of Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Bihar, Rest of Bengal, Odisha, Mumbai, Maharashtra, Kerala and UP East, serving major cities such as Lucknow, Ahmedabad, Patna and Siliguri.

Analysys Mason’s head for India and South Asia, Rohan Dhamija said that the contract is reflective of the trends and technology advancements in data market. On demand side, consumer are going to use more data, while on the supply side, standards are getting evolved.

“Given the expected data boom, and carrier aggregation across FDD-LTE and TDD-LTE, this expansion becomes relevant for Bharti Airtel,” Dhamija added. .

The new deployment will allow Bharti Airtel to provide improved coverage and faster mobile Internet access, while laying the foundation for the delivery of enhanced video services and other on-demand applications.

"We are pleased to continue to leverage Nokia's leading radio access technology and services expertise to expand 4G capacity and coverage and further increase the quality of service for subscribers,” Bharti Airtel said in a statement.

Under the deal, Nokia said that it will also expand Bharti Airtel’s 3G network in eight of the territories as part of this rollout and modernization of legacy 2G base stations.

"We have a long history of working with Bharti Airtel and with this latest agreement we have become the largest supplier of 4G for the company. This network expansion will provide the capacity, coverage and speeds the company needs to meet the next wave of data demand in India,” Sanjay Malik, head of India Market at Nokia, said in a statement.

The 4G rollout uses Nokia's radio access with Single RAN technology for FDD-LTE and TD-LTE. The gear vendor said that it will provide professional services including network integration and network planning and optimization.

According to Nokia’s 2016 MBiT Index report, India’s 4G LTE device ecosystem reported an eightfold increase in 2015, while other statistics showed that access to news, video content, gaming and social media accounts for 60 percent of India's total mobile data traffic - and it is rising.

To address this growth, Bharti Airtel has recently acquired 173.8 Mhz spectrum across three spectrum bands that include 1800 MHz, 2100 MHz and 2300 MHz for a total of Rs 14, 244 crore, in the recently concluded spectrum sale by the government.

The telco further strengthened its pan-India spectrum portfolio and secured its spectrum requirements for the next 20 years, and has airwaves across 4G and 3G spectrum in all circles.

What is VoWi-Fi?
VoWi-Fi simply stands for voice over Wi-Fi.
VoWi-Fi is a complementary technology to VoLTE and utilises IMS technology to provide a packet voice service that is delivered over IP via a Wi-Fi network.
Where possible, VoLTE calls may be seamlessly handed over between LTE and Wi-Fi and vice versa.
Conversational video is also possible via Wi-Fi (see ViLTE).
What are the benefits of VoWi-Fi?
Both end users and those in the mobile industry will benefit from Voice over Wi-Fi.
Consumers:Can make calls without the need for a mobile signal .
Benefit from security being based on SIM-based authentication as for VoLTE; and Experience better indoor coverage.
Operators need to deploy IP Multimedia Subsystem (IMS) in order to launch VoWiFi. IMS cost would also be saved if they already have VoLTE in the network. So, it’s less expensive than other solutions.

Bharti Airtel on Wednesday announced its new international roaming (IR) packs. The new international roaming packs will offer bundles of data, free India calling minutes, free messages, and free incoming calls. Airtel's new international packs will come with options of one day and 30 days validity.

The company will also announce 10 days pack by mid-October. One of the highlight features of the new international packs is it can be activated through the Airtel website, myAirtel app as well as customer contact centres. Airtel prepaid and postpaid customers can activate the new international roaming packs at any time and pay only when actually used. The packs are available for US and Canada, Singapore, UK, and the UAE.
In the US, Canada, UK, and the UAE, the one-day international pack will cost Rs. 649 (also being referred to as a $10 pack). Unfortunately, the company has not announced rates for the 10-day pack as of now, but said it plans to launch them around around $45 (roughly Rs. 3,000).
Airtel's 30-day international pack for the US, the UK, and Canada costs Rs. 4,999, and offers 3GB data alongside unlimited incoming calls. It also offers 400 minutes of 'free' calls to India and unlimited texts to India. Consumers will have to pay Rs. 3 per MB post pack data charge while all calls to India and within local destinations will be charged at Rs. 3 per minute post the 'free' minutes.
The 30-day international pack for the UAE costs Rs. 3,999, and is identical to the US, UK, and Canada pack, with one major difference - outgoing calls to India and within the local destination will cost Rs. 10 per minute once the 'free' minutes expire.
