BSNL to Introduce Its 4G Services in Select Cities of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana Soon: Report

State-run telecom operator, BSNL is finally making some move in implementing the 4G services. BSNL was long-rumored to roll out 4G services in the country but never did so. BSNL is now said to launch 4G services in select areas of Telangana and Andhra Pradesh in the current financial year.



" BSNL Chief General Manager, L Anatharam of Telangana circle speaking with PTI quoted that “A total of 1,150 (4G towers) will be installed in various districts as a part of the 4G GSM expansion project to extend higher data speeds of 4G services to the customers of BSNL.”
The report also says that both the AP and Telangana circles combinedly achieved a total revenue of Rs. 2526.18 crore in 2016-17 from the previous Rs. 2463.90 crore, making it a growth of 2.53 percent from last year.
If we consider only the GSM mobile operations, the company has achieved a revenue of Rs. 1475.86 crore in 2016-17 from the previous financial year’s Rs. 1405.65 crore. The GSM revenue in up by 5 percent from the previous quarter.
In both the circles, BSNL has registered a total of 1,70,121 landline connections, up by 6.86 percent from the previous financial year. This is the first time in BSNL achieved that amount of gross landline connections.
Apart from the 4G services, BSNL is also looking to improve 3G network coverage in the state’s capital city, Hyderabad. “A total of 64 new 2G and 3G sites have been planned along the Hyderabad Metro Rail corridor for providing seamless 3G services to the customers of BSNL, and all these are planned to be commissioned progressively. Out of these sites, the first new 2G and 3G site at Nagole Metro station have already been commissioned,” says the report.
BSNL has been teasing the launch of its 4G services from 2014, but the company hasn’t rolled them till now. At the start of 2017, BSNL Chairman, Anupam Shrivastava said that the government-owned firm would launch 4G services in April 2017 and the company has made its first move towards rolling out the services.
