Mumbai: 5G technology could add 34% growth in revenues of telecom operators in 2026, presenting a market opportunity worth $582 billion globally, Swedish telecom equipment company Ericsson said Thursday.

The company has found in a forthcoming study that for operators, the manufacturing and energy/utilities sectors represent the biggest opportunity for revenues created or enhanced by 5G.

Ericsson also launched its 5G platform comprising 5G core, radio and transport portfolios with digital support systems, transformation services and security Thursday.

“With this launch, we introduce our 5G platform to support the beginning of a huge change in network capabilities, allowing our customers to offer more advanced use cases and new business models to their customers. It is an important milestone enabling operators to continue their evolution journey to 5G,” says Arun Bansal, Head of Business Unit Network Products at Ericsson.

Ericsson said that its 5G core platform will allow operators to provide a network service globally, ensuring enterprises do not need individual agreements with different operators for a global service. It said that this network slice management will automate the setup of service connections and secure service quality. Network slicing allows an operator to provide virtual networks with functionality specific to the service or customer over a common network.
